Summer is just around the corner! Many of us, especially children, are starting to think about vacations, swimming, picnics and all the fun that comes with summer break.
Yes, summer vacation is almost here, but not everyone is excited. Right now, thousands of parents are starting to worry. Summer means that their children who have depended on free meals at school no longer have access to those meals. How will parents provide enough food for their children for the next three months, especially on top of the child care costs?
In this issue of The Link, we’re focusing on children, how the Regional Food Bank is addressing summer hunger and how people like you are the real heroes in these stories.
Of course, hunger in Oklahoma is more than just a summertime problem. We serve food-insecure children all year round, as well as seniors living on limited incomes and hardworking families trying to make ends meet. We distribute almost 50 million pounds of food a year to more than 1,300 community partners in 53 counties in central and western Oklahoma.
That’s why I’m so grateful for caring and generous friends like you. Thanks to you, families facing hunger have hope. As always, every $1 you give helps provide 3 meals. Thank you for your compassionate support!
