Why Magnify Oklahoma?

The name Magnify Oklahoma was chosen for our nine-month training program because it represents the collective power of our participants to magnify their voices and those of others who have been impacted by food insecurity and poverty. We recognize that those who have experienced food insecurity firsthand are often marginalized and may not have a seat at the table in policy and decision-making processes. Through this program, we aim to empower our participants to confidently engage in hunger prevention strategies and food security efforts, while also amplifying their voices and experiences. By coming together and magnifying our collective impact, we believe that we can create a more equitable and just food system for all Oklahomans.

Mission Statement: Magnify Oklahoma encourages neighbors to elevate their voices, building collective power to create an Oklahoma where everyone has equitable access to thrive.

What is the Magnify Training Academy?

The Magnify Oklahoma training academy is a nine-month program designed to empower participants to confidently engage in hunger prevention strategies and food security efforts. The participants will receive self-narrative coaching and training in three areas: policy, programming, and press. All participants will be compensated for their time, and optional support is available to mitigate participation barriers like transportation and caregiver reimbursements.

What does the Magnify Oklahoma Training Academy include?

  • A cohort of 10-12 participants selected by members of the lived experience engagement committee
  • Monthly group sessions
  • Skill development like self-narrative coaching, media training, advocacy training and foundational knowledge on food security and food banking
  • Participation in advocacy opportunities, like Anti-Hunger Day at the Capitol
  • Post program engagement in Regional Food Bank’s food security and hunger prevention efforts
