Roger - Project 66 - The Link - August 2023

Roger spent his working life helping others as a social worker, counseling people with mental illness and other challenges.

When he retired, he wanted to keep serving neighbors in need. So he signed up to volunteer with the Regional Food Bank.

Three days a week, he drives a truck, picking up foods at local grocery stores that would have otherwise been headed for the garbage bin because their expiration dates were approaching. Instead, those perfectly good items end up at the Project 66 Food & Resource Center — one of our pantry partners.

Project 66, located in Edmond, is a nonprofit, faith-based ministry providing food to families in need. And Roger, 80, plays a big part in making that happen.

Roger says he likes working with the Food Bank because it’s so practical.

“Providing food is the one thing about poverty that you really can address,” he says. “People can get the food they need here. It’s all to the good.”
