Vicky retired early to spend time with her children and grandkids after a long career as a computer system specialist, where she worked on mainframes to develop programs that were eventually used in personal computers.

She doesn’t regret the decision, but it means her pension is about half of what it could have been.

“I felt it was more important to have a family and a relationship,” Vicky says. “You can’t get the time back. And that was the decision I made. My family was more important to me than me making a lot of money.”

Like many other seniors living on a fixed income, rising prices are making it hard for Vicky to keep nutritious food on the table. So many older Oklahomans are forced to choose between paying for prescriptions, keeping up with bills and having enough to eat.

That’s why Vicky is so thankful for the Regional Food Bank, generous donors like you and the support she receives from Stroud CSFP food distributions.

“I eat everything I carry out of here. And I love it,” Vicky says. “With our economy lately, we just do the bare necessities.”

More than just filling her table, Vicky loves to share what she gets from the distribution with her neighbors who have kids of their own and whose mom recently passed away.

“My neighbor died, and she has two daughters who have children, and they work, and so I’ve been picking up for them too,” Vicky says. “They love me. And I love them.”

Oklahomans like Vicky are grateful for the support you make possible through food distributions and local pantries. You help ensure she has what she needs to survive and thrive!

“Thank you,” she says. “God bless you. It’s a blessing!”
