Thanksgiving is all about sharing our bounty and blessings with friends and families over a delicious meal.
But what about families that are having trouble keeping enough food on the table?
That’s the reality for families like Leslea’s that are trying to keep up but simply can’t always make ends meet. The price of healthy food remains high, which puts an extra burden on Oklahomans facing hunger.
“My husband is in construction but hasn’t been able to get a job,” Leslea says. “I stay home to take care of our two kids. Every few months, we just run out of funds.”
It’s important for Leslea to ensure her kids, ages 7 and 12, have the nutritious meals they need so they can grow and thrive. That’s why she’s thankful for the food she can access at the Regional Food Bank Food & Resource Center. And she says the Sidewalk Tuesday events ensure she has fresh produce, which helps their monthly budget last as long as possible.
“My biggest thing is the Sidewalk Tuesdays. That’s what we like the most,” Leslea says. “We can get a little extra and then can it so we have it a little longer.”
Being able to choose is especially important for Leslea because her husband is diabetic and has special needs for his diet.
The Regional Food Bank Food & Resource Center makes all the difference for Leslea and her family, especially with Thanksgiving just around the corner.
“Thank you,” Leslea says. “We really appreciate it and love the help!”
Families big and small need our help this holiday season. Thank you for bringing food and hope into their lives.
