Sharron, a shopper at Raider Necessities, poses for a photo in the pantry.

Sharron’s journey toward her career goals — she wants to be a dental assistant — got put on the shelf for a while.

Life just got too busy. A single mother of three, Sharron had to drop out of school while her kids were young. Now that they’re a little older — 17, 12 and 10 — she’s back in class, pursuing an associate degree at Rose State College.

She gets some financial assistance, including a scholarship, but that doesn’t pay the bills at home — especially when it comes to feeding her family.

That’s why she’s thrilled about Raider Necessities, an on-campus pantry and a partner of the Regional Food Bank.

Sharron visits the pantry to pick up food and other essentials for her family.

“If it weren’t for the pantry, I’d be broke,” Sharron says. “We would have to ration food. But thanks to the pantry, my kids don’t have to have an empty stomach, and that’s a beautiful thing.”

Sharron says when she gets her associate degree, she’ll return to the workforce for a while to pay off some student loans. Then she’ll return to college for a bachelor’s degree and certification as a dental assistant.

Until then, she’s grateful for your support of the Regional Food Bank.

“Thank you,” she says. “This place is a blessing, it really is.”

Your kindness puts food on the table for Sharron’s family!
