March 2021 Story 3

When Seby heard about a special distribution event for members of the Chickasaw Nation, she and her 5-year-old niece drove from Oklahoma City to Purcell to get what they needed — a box of food.

“I ran out of food stamps, and I had barely anything in the house for us to eat,” Seby said. “This is really helping.”

The event in Purcell, a joint effort between the Regional Food Bank and the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Program, was one of many serving the Chickasaw Nation. More than 375,000 pounds of food were distributed to almost 8,500 families, mostly from the Chickasaw Nation.

Sandra Roberts, who received a box of food, said the assistance “means everything. My husband and I are on a fixed income. It can be hard to get by, to make ends meet. We are glad friends told us to come out today to get this food.”
