Sally and her friends and neighbors at Yukon Hills senior housing know how to make going to Manna Pantry an event.

And when they get back, sometimes they even share their food and cook and eat together. That’s just about the best example of community we can think of!

“I’m here with my neighbor. She lives just across the hall from me [at Yukon Hills],” Sally says about visiting the pantry. “Quite a few of us come out here because we are seniors, and we don’t really have a whole lot, just Social Security. This [pantry] is fantastic!”

Sally worked at Francis Tuttle for years and later at Liberty Bank in Oklahoma City. At 81, she’s just trying to enjoy her retirement, stretch her limited income and help her neighbors along the way.

Each time she heads to Manna Pantry or to the store, she loads up as many neighbors as she can in her car. Sally is fortunate to be able to supplement what she receives, but says that for many of her neighbors, the pantry is their only source of food.

Sally is grateful for the extra food to stretch her income, especially the fresh produce. “Those are really good,” she says. And for the holidays, Sally was even able to get a ham to contribute to her family’s Christmas dinner.

“It’s really great to be able to share,” Sally says. And to people like you who give to make it all possible, Sally says, “Oh, thank you! Thank you, thank you! This is wonderful. It really is!”

Oklahoma ranks 12th in the nation for senior hunger. That’s why we’re so thankful for your support to help Sally, her neighbors and so many other older Oklahomans. We hope you’ll continue your support today!
