March 2021 Story 5

When a rare and severe ice storm knocked out power for more than 300,000 Oklahomans last October, friends like you came to the rescue to help provide much-needed food.

A state of emergency was declared in 47 counties, and 911 was flooded with calls as the storm coated trees and power lines with as much as half an inch of ice.

Many residents had to evacuate their homes, fleeing for hotels and shelters where they could find warmth and electricity. The Regional Food Bank joined with other organizations to help, delivering food to families sheltered at local hotels.

“I have a family of seven and we lost everything in two refrigerators and a freezer full of food,” Kristy, an Oklahoma City resident, told FOX 25. “This food will help get us through and we are so thankful for the help being provided.”

Thank you for helping families like Kristy’s when the need was so great. And please consider another gift today to help even more neighbors facing hunger. Thank you!
