For hardworking families in central and western Oklahoma living paycheck to paycheck, it’s often a challenge to put food on the table. During the summer, those challenges only grow. With school out, free or reduced-price breakfasts and lunches disappear, leaving parents to stretch already tight budgets even further. On top of that, child care costs start to pile up.
With recent cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, many families already have fewer dollars to spend on food. Instead of planning vacations or signing their children up for summer sports and camps, parents are saving every penny. Often, it’s still not enough.
Thanks to your compassionate support, the Regional Food Bank provides critical programs that help children and their families get the nutrition they need to thrive during the summer and all year long.
Pitts Recreation Center Kids Café
For Oklahoma families who need a hand putting food on the table during the summer months, the Regional Food Bank’s Kids Café Program is a huge help. Children can receive meals and snacks along with enjoying fun activities and games with other children.
One of these sites is hosted at the Pitts Recreation Center in Oklahoma City. For local families, the center provides consistent dinners, snacks and programs they can rely on to keep their children fed, safe and happy during the summer months.
The impact goes far beyond just a meal. As one Kids Café site director shares, the program is a lifeline for the neighborhood.
“This community is so thankful for Kids Café because so many children around here need the food. The extra attention they get in our program is a blessing as well. We are feeding kids that would otherwise be hungry,” the site director tells us.
Your continued support keeps families and children nourished this summer and all year long. We couldn’t be more grateful!
