March 2026 Policy Updates
Reflections from Anti-Hunger Day at the Capitol
Thank you to everyone who joined us for 2026 Anti-Hunger Day at the Oklahoma State Capitol. Advocates from across the state came together to elevate the issue of hunger with lawmakers and share how policy decisions directly impact the families and children we serve every day.
Throughout the day, anti-hunger leaders and partner agencies met with legislators to highlight the critical work happening across Oklahoma and to encourage support for policies that move us closer to ending hunger. A major focus this year was child nutrition, with strong advocacy for two key bills: HB 3638, which would establish Summer EBT to help children access food when school is out, and SB 1895, which would expand the Community Eligibility Provision so more schools can provide free meals to students.
Advocates also emphasized the importance of protecting and strengthening SNAP, a vital program that supports thousands of Oklahoma families and helps ensure consistent access to food.
“Anti-Hunger Day was a wonderful opportunity to gather with advocates from across Oklahoma and connect with legislators as they shape policy for the coming year. Food insecurity is a critically important issue. Oklahomans need our state leaders to focus on real solutions, as 22.5% of our neighbors rely on SNAP benefits to meet their nutritional needs. I was grateful for the opportunity to speak with lawmakers, raise awareness, and advocate for legislative relief.” said Katy Leffel, CEO of Skyline Food & Resource Center.
Anti-Hunger Day reminded us that progress happens when advocates and policymakers come together with a shared commitment to ensuring every Oklahoman has access to nutritious food.
