Beth and her husband have been together for 47 years. Through thick and thin, for better or for worse, they’ve been through it all and still cherish their unbreakable bond many years later.
But when her husband suffered multiple strokes, he entered the care of a nearby nursing home. It’s been a difficult transition for Beth, who’s still trying to find a comfortable routine without him.
Thankfully, he’s just a short drive away. “I go and see him every day,” Beth says.
Then, she goes home to care for her animal companions, including four dogs, two cats, a couple of ponies and many, many chickens.
“I do make sure that everybody’s taken care of.”
Still, it’s a lot for her to manage on her own. She and her husband receive disability benefits, but it’s often not enough to cover their medical bills, nursing home expenses and soaring grocery costs.
That’s why it’s been such a relief that Beth can come to the Loaves & Fishes Food Distribution Center, a Regional Food Bank partner, for a little extra help getting by.
“It’s a godsend,” she says. “I get groceries that I cannot afford to buy, and it’s been a real blessing. I know there’s people probably harder up than me, and it’s a blessing to them, too.”
Beth, and many older Oklahomans like her, is grateful to have a friend like you in her corner. Thank you for doing your part to help our neighbors facing hunger.
