| Aug. 28, 2025 – This September, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is joining Feeding America and food banks nationwide for Hunger Action Month, a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness about hunger and inspiring action to end it.
With the largest cuts to SNAP and Medicaid in history now signed into law, food and health care will soon be further out of reach for millions of people—including children. Hunger in America is a crisis and together, we can meet this moment. “Food insecurity rates are at their highest in more than a decade, impacting over 47-million Americans, and thousands of Oklahomans,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “The need for community action has never been greater.” This September, the Regional Food Bank is asking Oklahomans to come together and do their part to fight hunger, whether by volunteering, advocating, donating or wearing orange to raise awareness. Dates to remember are: · Sept. 1 – Hunger Action Month kicks off statewide! · Sept. 9 – Hunger Action Day: Wear orange, light up Oklahoma orange and stand in solidarity with those facing hunger. · Sept. 11 – State Fair Food Drive · Sept. 14–22 – Voter Registration Week · Sept. 16 – National Voter Registration Day Across the country, food banks and supporters will “go orange” by hosting events, advocating for stronger hunger-relief policies and mobilizing communities. In Oklahoma, landmarks such as the Skydance Bridge will glow orange on Hunger Action Day to shine a light on the issue.
