When Scott Thomas was a child, his family struggled with food insecurity, and they relied on food banks and pantries when times were hard.

Today, as founder and president of APMEX, Thomas and his company make it a priority to serve others and support local nonprofits, particularly the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. APMEX adopted the Regional Food Bank as its primary charity in 2011.

“It’s important to me personally because I grew up hungry,” says Thomas. “I felt the needs of people like that out in the community. I know what it’s like.

“My mother was on social services, and my father had left the home, and we needed to do what we could to put food on the table.”

Thousands of Oklahomans face hunger every year and Thomas wants APMEX to be a part of the solution.

For more than a decade, APMEX has hosted canned food drives at its office, and its employees have volunteered multiple times a year to sort food and pack boxes. The company has donated more than $2.8 million to the Regional Food Bank since the partnership started.

On GivingTuesday 2022, more than 70 APMEX volunteers took part in the Regional Food Bank’s Rock ‘n’ Box event. By the end of the night, volunteers had boxed 22,419 pounds of food to provide 18,683 meals to food-insecure Oklahomans. APMEX also donated $250,000 to the Regional Food Bank.

Service is one of APMEX’s core values, where employees and leadership are urged to embody this at work and in their own lives. Dedication to each other and commitment to giving back to our community make up APMEX’s backbone.

APMEX is proud to partner with the Regional Food Bank and looks forward to continuing the partnership for many years to come.
