Sept. 1, 2021 – The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is sending semitrailer loads of bottled water to assist with disaster relief efforts in Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Ida.
Two trailers transporting 91,035 pounds of bottled water will leave the Regional Food Bank Wednesday headed for Second Harvest of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana.
“Our hearts go out to our neighbors along the Gulf Coast impacted by Hurricane Ida,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “We will continue to work with Feeding America and our partners in the Gulf Coast to assess the need and respond in whatever way we can.”
As a member of the Feeding America network of food banks, the Regional Food Bank stores emergency food supplies to be used in the event of a disaster. In response to Hurricane Ida, Feeding America has deployed 26 truckloads of food, water and other relief supplies to the impacted communities.
