Volunteer at the Regional Food Bank
Because of the work that volunteers do, the Regional Food Bank is able to provide enough food to feed more than 63,000 Oklahomans each week throughout 53 central and western Oklahoma counties. Last year, thousands of volunteers donated nearly 48,000 hours of service, saving the Regional Food Bank $900,000 in labor! Volunteers help the Regional Food Bank fulfill its mission of helping the charitable community through volunteering in product recovery, at special events, as hunger heroes and a variety of other opportunities.
Please note: the Volunteer Center will be closed to the public on the following days:

Saturday, Mar. 27

Volunteer with Senior Feeding
The Regional Food Bank needs volunteers to help at Senior Feeding sites. The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is committed to identifying and assisting our senior citizens who are at the highest risk of going hungry. The organization needs help distributing food to seniors the third Wednesday and Thursday, and the fourth Friday of each month. Volunteers will need to be available from 9 to 11 a.m. and/or 1:30 to 2 p.m. For more information, please contact Jamie Treadaway at volunteer@regionalfoodbank.org or 405-600-3154.
Volunteer with Urban Harvest
Urban Harvest is designed to make fresh fruits and vegetables more readily available to hungry Oklahomans and increasing food security through the core components of the program. Volunteers for Urban Harvest should dress appropriately for sun and heat in the summer and cold weather in the winter. Bring insect repellant, sun block, hats, and sunglasses. To volunteer, contact Jamie Treadaway at 405-600-3154 or at volunteer@regionalfoodbank.org.
- Red Dirt Soil Builders is a specialized volunteer that group that meets Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Volunteers receive training on composting techniques and help move bad produce to the composting areas to be dumped. Here the waste becomes a valuable soil amendment. A willingness to learn, get dirty and to do something "green" is required for volunteers.
- This month, Urban Harvest will begin starting seeds in the greenhouse. Individuals and groups are needed to help start, propagate and care for greenhouse seedlings. In May, thousands of these plants will be distributed to our community gardens at no cost.
- Are you interested in production gardening? Urban Harvest will begin planting cool weather crops starting in Mid February and will continue into summer crops through June. Get your hands dirty planting, caring for and harvesting vegetables that are used in the fight against hunger in Oklahoma.
Volunteer at a Special Event
The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma needs your help staffing Chefs' Feast, a food and wine tasting event, on March 4, 2010 and the Feeding Hope and Letter Carries Food Drive on May 8, 2010. Last year, over 400 volunteers helped sort donations for the Feeding Hope food drive and nearly 100 volunteers helped at Chefs' Feast. To volunteer at these events, please contact Jamie Treadaway at volunteer@regionalfoodbank.org or 405-600-3154.
