After years of hard work, Robert and his wife are retired and living on a fixed income.

Robert toiled for decades as a truck driver, and his wife as a housekeeper. Putting food on the table was rarely a problem. But now, things are different ... and the money doesn’t always stretch far enough.

“You’ve got your house payment, light bill, phone bill, insurance,” Robert says. “You don’t have a whole lot left.”

But thanks to you — and one of our local partners — this older couple always has a source of food. Robert is grateful. “They’re really helping people,” he says.

Meanwhile, Patricia, another senior, found herself in need after leaving her job running a restaurant to take care of her three grandchildren who were placed in her custody.

“The kids needed me at home,” says Patricia, who now lives on disability benefits, which aren’t enough to cover the growing appetites of her grandchildren, a 9-year-old and 11-year-old twins.

“For them to open the fridge and get what they want is amazing,” she says. “They open it up about 50 times a day, and that’s okay.”
Although the children prefer quick foods like corn dogs, pizza bites and hot pockets, Patricia appreciates the healthier options that her local food distribution provides.

She’s also grateful for the women who run the local food pantry. “They’ve become my friends. I’m home a lot and don’t get out, but I look forward to going there,” she says.

Thank you for helping seniors like Robert and Patricia. You can help even more with another gift today. Thank you!
