TSM Food Bank March 2022 Story 2 Image

During the school year, tens of thousands of Oklahoma children participate in free and reduced-price lunch programs to ensure they get the nutrition they need to thrive in school.

But during summer break, that number dips significantly, largely due to the lack of school meal programs. That’s why the Regional Food Bank has a Summer Feeding Program, the state’s largest supplier of summer meals.

In the program, qualifying children up to the age of 18 can receive a free, nutritious meal and snack on weekdays all summer long at sites across central and western Oklahoma.

All meals and snacks are prepared and packaged by volunteers in Hope’s Kitchen, the Regional Food Bank’s production kitchen.

Families like Beatriz’s, shown here, benefit from programs like these.

“It helps the community, the families, and kids,” says Beatriz. “The food is healthy and good, and it helps the people that need it.”

Her 9-year-old son Muriel likes the family time that results.

“We cook as a family,” says Muriel, “and we help each other.”

Thank you for helping to ensure that children don't live with hunger during summer vacation! Your gift today can help even more.
