April 28, 2021 – An $11,000 grant from Ovintiv is providing healthy, frozen take-home meals for seniors in McClain County as part of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Senior Servings Program. The meals are prepared at the Regional Food Bank’s production kitchen, Hope’s Kitchen, and distributed at the Dibble Senior Center Food Pantry.

The meals are available to adults over the age of 60 who have been identified as having limitations in endurance, cognition and physical mobility to prepare meals at home. These limitations directly impact senior food insecurity and nutritional status by making things like acquiring, preparing, cooking and consuming meals more difficult. According to Feeding America’s “State of Senior Hunger” report, food insecure seniors are 32% more likely to suffer from at least one limitation compared to food secure seniors.

“Not only did this grant help get our Senior Servings Program started in Dibble, it continues to provide important nutrition, month after month, for residents in the area,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “We are so grateful for our partnership with Ovintiv that makes this important program possible.”

Each Senior Servings meal is created to meet senior nutritional needs and contains a grain, protein and a vegetable or fruit and is low sodium. The frozen meals come in easy-to-handle trays. Seniors are allowed to take 6 to 12 meals per visit. Hope’s Kitchen currently offers a variety of meals, including the following:

  • Baked Pasta
  • Beef Stew
  • Cheese Lasagna
  • Teriyaki Chicken

The Dibble Senior Center Food Pantry is located at 12219 Fireman’s Road in Dibble. Those interested in receiving meals through the Senior Servings Program should call 405-227-5497 to see if they qualify. The Senior Servings Program is currently available at seven Regional Food Bank partners across central and western Oklahoma.
