Will Join the Fight Against Hunger This Fall

(OKLAHOMA CITY) – Aug. 7, 2018 – The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma seeks to hire three year-long AmeriCorps positions by Aug. 23 to help fight hunger throughout central and western Oklahoma.

“We value our partnership with AmeriCorps and are thankful for their support in advancing our mission of ‘Fighting Hunger…Feeding Hope,’” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank.

AmeriCorps Member opportunities include:

  • The AmeriCorps - SNAP Outreach Specialist helps the Regional Food Bank expand support for families, adults and seniors by directly assisting them in making applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and modelling this activity for the nonprofit’s partner agencies.
  • The AmeriCorps – Volunteer Center Capacity Building Coordinator supports the Regional Food Bank’s volunteer program to ensure the continued growth and successful engagement of the community through hunger education and recruitment.
  • The AmeriCorps - Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for increasing the Regional Food Bank’s Moore Food & Resource Center’s capacity to serve clients by providing community outreach to identify and establish resources in the surrounding community.  The individual will also lead training and support efforts to improve and increase opportunities to connect volunteers to the work of the Moore FRC.

“Overall, my experience as an AmeriCorps Member at the Regional Food Bank has been life changing,” said Danielle Draper, capacity building coordinator and AmeriCorps member.  “I gained so much life experience and insight into the lives of this community that I was able to truly grow as a person. This experience also taught me how to put the needs of others above my own in a very practical way. Working with an organization that aims to serve as many people as possible has given me the passion to continue working in the nonprofit field. I will cherish my time spent at the Regional Food Bank, and there is no other organization that I would’ve liked to be a part of as a part of my national service to this community.”
