(Oklahoma City) – Feb. 2, 2018 – Through Imagine Learning, Oklahoma students solved over 2.4 million math problems last fall, converting earned math points to a $677 donation to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. This donation is a part of Imagine Learning's charitable giving program, which has raised over $550,000 for local and national charities since its inception.
"Last fall, Oklahoma Imagine Math students opened up their hearts to help their community with math," said Lisa Wise, manager of motivation at Imagine Learning. "We are so proud of those students who have participated in this endeavor to help feed hungry families in Oklahoma. Math students across Imagine Nation have embraced the charitable giving program throughout the years and turned their hard work into an act of giving and kindness.”
As students progressed through the coursework they could choose to either receive rewards, like toys and games, or make a donation to a nonprofit. Studies show that providing kids the option to donate points to charity, instead of redeeming rewards for themselves, develops decision-making skills, boosts confidence, and lays the groundwork for a lifetime of philanthropic thinking and practice.
“It’s inspiring to see students helping other students,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “No child should grow up hungry, yet one in four Oklahoma children has inconsistent access to healthy food. We are appreciate Imagine Learning and students across the state for joining us in fighting hunger.”
Oklahoma is one of the hungriest states in the nation, with one in six Oklahomans living with hunger. The Regional Food Bank is the state’s largest hunger-relief organization and distributed more than 43.4 million meals last year to residents with inconsistent access to healthy food in central and western Oklahoma.
Together, we can end hunger in Oklahoma. For more information, or to make a tax-deductible donation, call 405-972-1111 or visit regionalfoodbank.org.
