OK Foods Donates Time, $5,000 to Regional Food Bank

Major Food Producer Committed to Serving Hungry Oklahomans

(OKLAHOMA CITY) – July 3, 2017 – The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma has been awarded $5,000 from OK Foods, one of the largest fully-integrated chicken producers in the world. This donation will provide the equivalent of 25,000 meals for children, families and seniors struggling with hunger over the summer.  More than 115 OK Foods employees also donated 285 hours of service to fighting hunger at the Regional Food Bank.

“OK Foods is committed to providing nourishment to people around the world,” said Trent Goins, chief executive officer of OK Foods. “We are proud of our employees who served at the Food Bank while our plant in Oklahoma City was undergoing repairs.”

Thanks to support from the community, and businesses like OK Foods, the Regional Food Bank is able to provide enough food to feed 126,000 Oklahomans each week.

“One in six Oklahomans face hunger every day,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “Over the summer months, many families are forced to choose between paying for electric bills to fight the heat and paying for food to fight the hunger. OK Foods’ donation of both money and time will help our neighbors who otherwise may have to make these tough decisions.”

It’s never too late to join the fight against hunger in Oklahoma. The Regional Food Bank is in urgent need of volunteers this summer. Volunteer tasks include: packing food for children in Hope’s Kitchen, bagging and boxing food products, assisting with mobile pantry distributions, and more. Another way to fight hunger in the state is by making a donation. Each dollar donated provides the equivalent of five meals. For more information about the Regional Food Bank, or to make a donation, call 405-600-3136 or visit regionalfoodbank.org/summer.
