(OKLAHOMA CITY) – Dec. 14, 2017 – Hunger never takes a holiday and that’s why APMEX.com, Chesapeake Energy and the Cresap Family Foundation are offering a dollar for dollar match up to $600,000 for gifts made to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma through Jan. 15.
In addition, Chesapeake employees and their families recently donated 946 pounds of nonperishable food collected during a holiday tree lighting event on the company’s main campus in Oklahoma City.
“It’s an honor to partner with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to help keep Oklahomans fed through the holidays,” said William Buergler, Regional Food Bank board member and senior vice president and chief accounting officer at Chesapeake. “Matching monetary donations and providing our employees with an opportunity to give back to the community is an important part of our commitment to supporting the places where we live and work.”
The Regional Food Bank typically provides five meals for every dollar donated; however, through this match, a $1 donation will provide the equivalent of 10 meals for hungry Oklahomans in 53 central and western counties. After the match is met, every $1 donated will provide five meals for Oklahomans who have inconsistent access to good food.
“The Regional Food Bank is so fortunate to have corporate partners like Chesapeake who help us make sure our neighbors who are living with hunger receive the food they need,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “This type of support is a live saver for the many Oklahomans we serve.”
Oklahoma consistently ranks among the hungriest states in the nation. The majority of Oklahomans served by the Regional Food Bank are chronically hungry children, seniors living on limited incomes and hardworking families struggling to make ends meet.
