(OKLAHOMA CITY) – March 1, 2018 – This tax season, when new H&R Block clients mention the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma at their tax appointments H&R Block will donate $20, the equivalent of 80 meals, to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
“Our staff is energized to return resources to charitable organizations that serve the communities where we work and live,” said Sheryl Ennis Craig, regional district manager at H&R Block. “Our relationship with the Regional Food Bank has grown over the past several years and is one of the most effective we have with any nonprofit partner in Oklahoma City. The Regional Food Bank has an awesome presence in this community, and is an organization which we are proud to serve side-by-side.”
One in six Oklahomans has inconsistent access to healthy food. The majority of clients served by the Regional Food Bank are chronically hungry children, seniors living on fixed incomes and hard working families struggling to make ends meet. Oklahomans like Billie, who didn’t know that her retirement years would be spent raising her grandchildren.
“I let the grandkids eat first to make sure there’s enough for them. I make sure they have something to eat, no matter what,” she said. “So if I have to just eat fruit or something else, that’s okay, as long as their stomachs are full.”
Established in 1980, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is the state’s largest hunger-relief organization. Last year, the Regional Food Bank of distributed more than 52 million pounds of food through a network of 1,300 community-based charitable feeding programs and schools throughout 53 central and western Oklahoma counties.
Together, we can end hunger. Oklahomans can double the impact of their gifts to help feed even more seniors on fixed incomes. Through March 15, donations to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to fight senior hunger will be matched – up to $100,000. Together, we can make sure every senior has access to nutritious, healthy food. Make a donation today at feedokseniors.org or call 405-600-3136. After the match is met, every $1 donated will provide four meals for seniors living with hunger.
