Go Back-to-School with a Free Prescription Discount Card

Savings Help Oklahoma Families and Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma

(OKLAHOMA CITY) – Aug. 12, 2016 – When prepping for back-to-school, there’s one essential item that will help Oklahoma families throughout the year—a free prescription discount card. The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma continues to partner with Watertree Health, a leading provider of free prescription discount cards, to help fight hunger while building a healthier community. Every time someone saves with the card, Watertree Health makes a donation to the nonprofit to help fight hunger in central and western Oklahoma.

“One in four Oklahoma children struggles with hunger every day,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “This partnership with Watertree Health is a win-win.  By using the prescription discount card, Oklahomans are saving money and helping feed chronically hungry children, seniors and families. To date, more than 318,000 meals have been provided to our neighbors through this partnership.”

The card allows users to receive up to 75 percent off prescriptions. Eligible Rx medications include: those frequently prescribed for colds/flus, ADHD, allergies, heart disease, hypothyroidism, asthma, diabetes and other health conditions. Cardholders can look up savings on their medications at nearby pharmacies by going to wtree.us/savingstool/feedok and providing the drug name and their zip code.

Watertree Health President, Shane Power said, “My Company is committed to helping Oklahoman parents keep their children healthy throughout the year. As students prepare for their return to school, it’s important that we provide them with the medications they need to manage allergies and other ongoing health issues.  Watertree Health makes prescription adherence more affordable by supplying families with

free prescription discount cards, which also benefit the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma—when you save, we donate to the organization.”

The pre-activated card can be used by people with health insurance to complement their plans—to help fill in gaps of prescription coverage—or the by the uninsured. It is accepted at more than 60,000 pharmacies across the country—local, regional and national chains such as Homeland, CVS, Walmart and Walgreens.

Oklahomans can receive a free prescription discount card by texting FEEDOK to 95577, or by visiting WatertreeHealthCard.com/FEEDOK. The card image in this story can also be presented to the pharmacist to obtain Rx savings.

Established in 1980, the Regional Food Bank is the largest private, domestic hunger-relief organization in the state of Oklahoma. Last fiscal year, the nonprofit distributed more than 52 million pounds of food and products through a network of more than 1,200 charitable feeding programs and schools in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties.

Oklahoma is one of the hungriest states in the nation, where one in six adults struggles with hunger every day. Most of the clients served by the Regional Food Bank are children, seniors living on fixed incomes and working families who cannot make ends meet.

Together, we can solve hunger. Thanks to the generosity of the Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma, Top of the World, David Gorham and two anonymous families, every gift made to the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids program between now and September 30 will be matched, up to $150,000.  To make a donation, visit http://www.foodforkids.us or call 405-600-3136.  To learn more, visit regionalfoodbank.org.
