Globelink security systems and food bank team up to fight childhood hunger
Promotion Benefits Food for Kids Programs in Oklahoma
(OKLAHOMA CITY) – July 25, 2016 – Thanks to the generosity of Globelink Security Systems, more than $35,000 has been raised for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Food for Kids programs, which will provide 175 chronically hungry children with much-needed food throughout the school year.
Globelink donates 10 percent of its commission from each new business transaction to help the one in four children in Oklahoma who struggles with hunger. Because there is a critical connection between childhood nutrition and cognitive and physical development, even nutritional deficiencies of a relatively short-term nature can negatively impact a child's health, behavior and the ability to concentrate and perform complex tasks.
“I’ve seen behavioral issues that stem from hunger,” shared a Food for Kids coordinator. “When children aren’t well-fed they can act out. Hunger affects everything: behavior, health, school, and social interactions. We are very thankful for the Regional Food Bank. They make it possible for us to provide those basic needs for our kids.”
The Regional Food Bank serves children directly through four Food for Kids programs: the Backpack Program, Kids Cafe, Summer Feeding and School Pantries. Through July 31, any child 18 and under can receive complimentary meals through the Regional Food Bank’s Summer Feeding Program at 116 sites in central and western Oklahoma. For a complete list of sites visit summerfeeding.org.
“While most children enjoy summer break, many children in Oklahoma are going home to empty cupboards,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank. “Thankfully, children can visit a Summer Feeding site to ensure they will have enough to eat.”
Established in 1980, the Regional Food Bank is the largest private, domestic hunger-relief organization in the state of Oklahoma. Last fiscal year, the nonprofit distributed more than 52 million pounds of food and products through a network of nearly 1,000 charitable feeding programs and schools in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties.
Together, we can solve hunger. For more information about the Regional Food Bank, or to make a donation, visit regionalfoodbank.org or call 405-600-3136.
