(OKLAHOMA CITY) – Dec. 11, 2018 - Tenaris has donated $5,500 to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Food for Kids Backpack Program at Amber-Pocasset Elementary School.
"Tenaris is committed to supporting the communities where its employees and customers live and work. By partnering with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to support their Backpack Program, we are able to ensure children in need are getting nutritious food to sustain them over the weekends and school holidays,” said Spencer Smith, Tenaris commercial director for the Mid-Continent region. “Tenaris is proud to be a part of the effort to fight hunger in the state of Oklahoma.”
In November, Tenaris employees and their families volunteered at the Regional Food Bank, helping to package enough backpacks to provide 3,349 meals.
“Learning can’t begin until hunger ends,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “Thanks to this gift from Tenaris, Amber-Pocasset Elementary School students participating in the Backpack Program will take home food, the most essential school supply.”
One in four Oklahoma children lives with hunger. The Regional Food Bank’s Backpack Program provides approximately 10 different items of nutritious food for students to eat over the weekend and during holiday breaks. Last year, the program served nearly 20,000 students at 481 elementary schools.
The Regional Food Bank must purchase all food provided through the Backpack Program to ensure it is kid-friendly and meets childhood nutrition guidelines. To donate to the program, visit rfbo.org/givenow.
