(OKLAHOMA CITY) – May 24, 2019 - An eight-year partnership between Natural Grocers and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma has helped to provide more than 108,800 meals for Oklahomans in need of food assistance. Through the Bring Your Own Bag Program, Natural Grocers donates a nickel for every bag shoppers bring from home.
Natural Grocers has donated more than $27,200 since the program began in 2011. Natural Grocers has five locations throughout the Oklahoma City metro. Nationwide, the Bring Your Own Bag Program has prevented more than 270 million plastic bags from ending up in the environment.
"Not only does the program help reduce a customer's carbon footprint it also helps to provide nutritious food to our neighbors in central and western Oklahoma who are living with food insecurity," said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank.
In Oklahoma, one in six residents lack consistent access to enough food to lead an active, healthy life. Partnerships with companies like Natural Grocers help the Regional Food Bank to distribute food to more than 1,250 community-based partner agencies in central and western Oklahoma.
The Regional Food Bank can help provide four meals with the donation of just $1. Donations can be made by visiting rfbo.org/donate or calling 405-600-3136.
