Love's Travel Stops Commemorates Anniversary by Fighting Hunger in Oklahoma

(OKLAHOMA CITY) – Feb. 14, 2019 - Love's Travel Stops corporate employees celebrated Valentine's Day by partnering with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to help provide food to those living with hunger in the state. The fifth annual "Share the Love" event saw more than 300 Love's employees spending the day packing and sorting food donations at the Regional Food Bank. In total, Love's volunteers helped to provide the equivalent of 39,143 meals for chronically hungry children, seniors living on limited incomes and hardworking families struggling to make ends meet.

“Valentine’s Day is special in many ways to us at Love’s, but sharing the love in our community and with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is one of the best things we do,” said Jenny Love Meyer, vice president of communications at Love’s. “The team at the Regional Food Bank is dedicated to their mission in fighting against hunger and we are proud to work alongside them in helping others across the state.”

"Share the Love" began as a way to commemorate Love's 50th anniversary in 2014 and has now become an annual event. The company spends the day giving back to the Oklahoma City community, the home of their corporate headquarters.

"Spreading joy and kindness in the community is a perfect way to spend Valentine's Day," said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. "We are grateful for Love’s commitment to ensuring that Oklahomans in need of food assistance will have meals on their table."

Love’s and its employees have partnered with the Regional Food Bank since 1993. During that time, a combination of monetary and food donations and volunteer hours means that Love’s and its employees have helped to provide the equivalent of 1,117,036 meals for Oklahomans who live with hunger.

Oklahoma is the sixth hungriest state in the nation. Last year, the Regional Food Bank distributed 50 million pounds of food to our community-based partners in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties.
