(OKLAHOMA CITY) – July 16, 2020 - The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma has received a $13,000 grant from the Darden Foundation to help provide hunger-relief to families in central and western Oklahoma.
"This donation comes at an unprecedented time in the Regional Food Bank's history. The COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn has hit Oklahoma families hard," said Deb Bunting, interim CEO of the Regional Food Bank. "The Darden Foundation's generosity will help us to keep food flowing to Oklahomans living with hunger during these challenging times.”
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Regional Food Bank has worked with its partners across central and western Oklahoma to safely provide food to residents living with food insecurity. Those partners have reported on average a 30 percent increase in Oklahomans requesting food assistance for the first time.
In April and May, the Regional Food Bank distributed 10.3 million pounds of food, 900,000 more pounds than a typical two-month average.
The Darden Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity in communities across the United States. The foundation’s commitment to help is demonstrated through its partnership with Feeding America and its network of 200 food banks across the nation.
Feeding America has worked alongside The Darden Foundation for eight years in the fight against hunger. Thanks to their ongoing support, the Feeding America network has been able to help provide even more meals to families in need.
