(NORMAN, Okla.) – Dec. 5, 2019 - The holiday season is in full swing and for the 11th consecutive year one of the metro's most spectacular holiday light displays has again committed to fighting hunger in Oklahoma. Through Jan. 4, Downs Family Christmas Light Ministry is collecting food and funds to benefit the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
The annual show features more than 18 miles of light strands synchronized to holiday music. The show runs from 6 p.m. to midnight daily. There is no charge to view the light show but visitors are encouraged to make a monetary or food donation that benefits the Regional Food Bank.
"We are so grateful to the Downs family for the hard work they put in each year to make their display possible," said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. "Over the past decade, they have helped to provide more than 2 million meals for Oklahomans living with food insecurity."
The majority of people served by the Regional Food Bank are chronically hungry children, seniors living on limited incomes and hardworking families struggling to make ends meet. Through Dec. 31, every $1 donated to the Regional Food Bank is doubled thanks to generous gifts from APMEX.com, the Cresap Family Foundation and Chesapeake Energy Corporation.
