(OKLAHOMA CITY) – Feb. 25, 2020 – The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is joining forces with 12 Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurants throughout the Oklahoma City metro area for the Month of Giving campaign. Since 2012, Jersey Mike’s Subs has donated more than $441,000 to the Regional Food Bank’ Food for Kids Programs.
During the month of March, customers can make a donation to the Food for Kids Programs at participating Jersey Mike’s restaurants. The campaign will culminate in Jersey Mike’s Day of Giving on Wednesday, March 25, when the 12 Jersey Mike’s restaurants will give 100 percent of the day’s sales – not just profit – to the Regional Food Bank.
"Jersey Mike's is proud to work with the Regional Food Bank. They are great partners and do so much to make a difference in our community," said Charlie Brown, franchise owner and area director for Jersey Mike's. "With fantastic help from our customers we have been able to donate a tremendous amount of money including $77,000 last year. We are proud and excited to eclipse the $500,000 mark for total donations during this year's Month of Giving."
During the 2019 Month of Giving, Oklahoma City stores broke their previous donation record by raising more than $77,000. The donations provided food for 770 children for an entire school year through the Food for Kids Programs.
“Every year we are so grateful for the commitment to fighting hunger shown by Jersey Mike’s and their loyal customers,” said Kendra Loper, chief community engagement officer of the Regional Food Bank. “Over the course of their efforts, Jersey Mike’s have made a genuine impact in the lives of thousands of Oklahoma children.”
One in four Oklahoma children are food insecure. Last school year, the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids Programs provided more than 2.8 million meals to nearly 42,000 chronically hungry children. Donations to the Month of Giving help Oklahomans like Kanan. He receives food before the weekends and long breaks through the Backpack Program.
“I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have any food. The food in the backpacks is fresh. I like the applesauce," Kanan said.
Nationwide, Jersey Mike’s locations have raised more than $41 million for local charities and distributed more than 2 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes since the campaign began in 2010.
