OKLAHOMA CITY, June 13, 2016—Express Employment Professionals International Headquarters and Oklahoma City metro Express office employees raised enough donations to provide more than 34,700 meals for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma as part of the company’s international day of service, Brand It Blue Day.
Oklahoma Express offices hosted the event in partnership with more than 235 Express offices from California to North Carolina to Canada, who came together at local food banks and pantries across North America to help fight hunger – a growing epidemic that impacts millions of people in the U.S., Canada and around the world every day.
In Oklahoma City, nearly 100 Express employees, family members and friends volunteered at the Regional Food Bank on Saturday and packed more than 14,400 meals for Oklahomans struggling with hunger.
“For the fourth year, Brand It Blue Day allowed the entire Express family to come together to help the communities we work and live in,” said Bob Funk, CEO and chairman of the board for Express Employment Professionals.
“As we continue our mission to put a million people to work, we’re excited to continue volunteering and serving people in need. This is an especially tough time of the year for many children who won’t receive meals from their school, and we hope we made a difference in their lives.”
The Regional Food Bank provides enough food that feeds more than 116,000 people every week in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties. Most of those served by the Regional Food Bank are children, seniors and hardworking families.
“The donation of time, money and food from Express will help us feed our neighbors in need this summer,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank. “Volunteers are the lifeblood of what we do, and we simply could not help as many people as we do if it weren’t for companies like Express and their employees who donate their time as volunteers.”
The Regional Food Bank is the largest private domestic hunger-relief organization in the state of Oklahoma. Last fiscal year, the nonprofit distributed 49.9 million pounds of food and products through a network of more than 1,250 charitable feeding programs and schools in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties.
