Bank of Oklahoma Employees Celebrated Cinco de Mayo by Giving Back

250 Employees Donated Food, Funds and Time to Fight Hunger

(OKLAHOMA CITY) – May 9, 2018 – On May 5, employees from Bank of Oklahoma once again joined the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma in the fight against hunger through their Cinco de Mayo “Hunger-Fighting Fiesta” volunteer event. In total, 250 employees volunteered their time to ensure Oklahomans would have enough to eat this summer by packing and sorting donations at the Regional Food Bank. Volunteers packed enough food to provide the equivalent 54,073 meals for Oklahomans with inconsistent access to healthy food.

“This is the third time our employees have chosen the Regional Food Bank as the recipient of our annual community impact project,” said John Higginbotham, chief executive officer of Bank of Oklahoma. “We keep returning because our company and employees are committed to fighting hunger in Oklahoma every step of the way. It’s heartwarming to know that they’re really caring about what they’re doing.”

In addition to volunteering, Bank of Oklahoma employees donated 1,841 pounds of nonperishable food as part of their “Hunger-Fighting Fiesta,” which will provide 1,534 meals to chronically hungry children, seniors on fixed incomes and hardworking families struggling to make ends meet.

This donation is also part of the Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers’ Food Drive. The drives raises food and funds to help the one in six Oklahomans living with hunger. To date, neatly 100 organizations, like Bank of Oklahoma, have signed up for the drive to help meet this year’s goal of raising enough food and funds to provide 2 million meals.

One in six Oklahomans lives with hunger. Most of the clients served by the Regional Food Bank are seniors on fixed incomes, chronically hungry children and hardworking families.

“Bank of Oklahoma has supported our mission of ‘Fighting Hunger…Feeding Hope’ through volunteerism and financial donations for 20 years,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “Since our partnership began, more than $50,000 and countless hours have been donated. We are incredibly grateful for the continued support from Bank of Oklahoma and their employees.”
