B-WAP Unzips Childhood Hunger

Partners with Regional Food Bank during Hunger Action Month

(OKLAHOMA CITY) – Aug. 29, 2018 – B-WAP (Backpacks with a Purpose) and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma are teaming up for a special promotion in honor of Hunger Action Month. Through Sept. 30, B-WAP will donate three bags to the Regional Food Bank’s Backpack Program for every online purchase made at B-WAP.com that uses the code “GIVETHREE.”. Typically for every purchase made on the website, B-WAP donates two bags

“One in four children in Oklahoma have inconsistent access to healthy food,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “Through this partnership with B-WAP, we are able to provide backpacks to elementary schools participating in our Backpack Program.”

Through the Backpack Program, chronically hungry elementary school students receive a backpack full of kid-friendly, non-perishable and nutritious food on Friday to sustain them over weekends and school holidays. During the 2017-2018 school year, 19,051 students in 481 schools participated in the Backpack Program.

B-WAP, based in Guthrie, Okla., sells retail backpacks to benefits nonprofits like the Regional Food Bank. For more information, visit B-WAP.com.

September is Hunger Action Month, a time when people in the United States stand together with Feeding America and its nationwide network of food banks, including the Regional Food Bank, to raise awareness about hunger.

Working together, we can end childhood hunger in Oklahoma. Thanks to a generous offer from the Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma, Lezlie and David Hudiburg, David Gorham and an anonymous donor, every donation to the Food for Kids Programs through Sept. 30 will be matched – up to $150,000. To make a donation, visit foodforkids.us or call 405-600-3136.
