You Make the “Struggle Time” Easier for this Young Family
Shanan Warden calls it “struggle time” — that week or so at the end of the month when her husband’s paycheck has stretched as far as it can. When it can’t stretch any further, she says, “it’s just not enough to keep food coming into the house. It’s hard sometimes.”
Things are about to get even tougher for this family. You see, Shanan’s older children are 15, 14, and 8 years old. They receive free lunches every day at school. When school lets out in a few weeks, school lunch programs will end, too. And then, Shanan will have to figure out how to provide 15 more meals a week for her family.
Fortunately, you’re there to help! Your support of the Regional Food Bank helps keep the pantry at Reaching Our City — a partner agency in northwest Oklahoma City — filled with nutritious food to help families like Shanan’s.
We asked Shanan what she would say to friends like you who help families like hers. “Thank you for letting it be here for people who need it,” she says. “I don’t know what we would do if I couldn’t come here. “We don’t have anything, really,” Shanan says. “What we get here helps us get by. It helps a lot.”
We’re also thankful for your generous support of the Regional Food Bank! Every day, you’re making a life-changing difference for families all over central and western Oklahoma. Please give to our Summer Lunchbox Campaign to help provide meals for kids like Shanan’s — who may have trouble finding enough to eat when schools let out soon.
