They Came to Get Help, But Stayed to Help Others

Marcella and Jesse Moore first came to Skyline Urban Ministry, a partner agency of the Regional Food Bank near downtown Oklahoma City, for help getting enough to eat. There was a big crowd that day, so mother and son took a number and waited. And waited. And waited.

Marcella and Jesse Moore first came to Skyline Urban Ministry, a partner agency of the Regional Food Bank near downtown Oklahoma City, for help getting enough to eat. There was a big crowd that day, so mother and son took a number and waited. And waited. And waited.

“My son, he’s a talker,” Marcella says. “And after about two hours, he went up to the lady at the desk and says, ‘Are y’all short of help around here?’ And she says, ‘Yes! Would you like to volunteer?’

“That was three and a half years ago, and we’re still here helping!”

Marcella was away for a few weeks last fall for health reasons. But she’s feeling much better now, she says, and she and Jesse are back at Skyline.

“We unload the trucks, sort the food, organize the shelves,” Jesse explains. “Mostly, we just take care of the customers.

“It’d be a sad situation if this place wasn’t here,” he continues. “The people we’ve seen over the last three and a half years really need the help. The people who contribute to the Regional

Food Bank, we appreciate what they’re doing for the community.”

We appreciate your support, too — especially when you give during the Senior Match Campaign to have your gift doubled to help twice as many people! Thank you for stepping forward to care for others, just like Marcella and Jesse have, through your partnership with Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
