Mother and Child Find Help and Safety Through Your Kind Heart
Ordinarily, we love to show the faces of the people you’re helping through your support of the Regional Food Bank. But in this case, we’re not going to. We promised we wouldn’t.
We met Rebecca (not her real name) and her young child at a Regional Food Bank partner agency outside Oklahoma City. They’ve only been in the area a few weeks, having fled an abusive husband and father in another part of the state. Rebecca was nervous about having their photo taken, so we put our camera away.
But while we can’t tell you much about Rebecca, there’s one thing she really wants you to know: how much she values the help you’re giving the two of them as they create a new life in a safe new community.
“It’s basically just him and me now,” Rebecca says. “The food we get here lasts us a long time. The people who make this possible are making a huge difference for me and my child.”
We asked her what she would have done without the help she’s received from the Regional Food Bank and our partner agency, and she thought about it for a minute. “I don’t know,” she finally said in a very quiet voice.
