April 7, 2021 – The MDRT Foundation has awarded a $4,000 grant to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Backpack Program.

Through its global grants programs, the MDRT Foundation is committed to building stronger families and communities around the globe. This year, the MDRT Foundation will award over $1.5 million in MDRT member-endorsed grants to more than 250 charitable organizations worldwide.

In Oklahoma, one in four children live with food insecurity. The Regional Food Bank works to end childhood hunger by providing children with nutritious food they need to help them thrive. This is accomplished through four Food for Kids Programs, one of which is the Backpack Program. The program provides kid-friendly, nutritious food to elementary school children who are identified by school staff as food insecure. The food is distributed to children before weekends and long holiday breaks. In the past school year, the Backpack Program served nearly 20,000 students at 472 elementary schools.

Since 2008, the MDRT Foundation has provided more than $25,000 in support to the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids Programs.

“Hungry children cannot learn. The MDRT Foundation has been crucial in the fight against childhood hunger in Oklahoma,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “The MDRT Foundation’s support has been especially crucial in the past year as we navigate the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you!”
