For several years, the Regional Food Bank hosted a fundraiser that celebrated local chefs by giving them a platform to share their unique dishes. The event’s success was largely due to the donation of food and talent by the restaurants, something that’s harder for them to do in the wake of the pandemic.

“In a post-COVID time where restaurants had struggled, the Regional Food Bank wanted to create an event that was mutually beneficial for everyone,” says Jennifer Bowman, community relations coordinator for Heartland. In response, they helped create the inaugural Oklahoma City Restaurant Week, an event that featured 45 locally operated restaurants and raised nearly $80,000 this past spring.

Eager to help sponsor an event that would support not only the community, but also the local businesses that have given so much over the years, the team members at Heartland jumped in to assist. They not only supported the event through a sponsorship, but team member Dustin Stokes served on the planning committee as well.

“For Heartland, it was a huge win to be able to help meet the needs of those experiencing food insecurity and serve restaurant owners in our local communities,” says Bowman. “We are grateful for the work of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, their team and the volunteers who give tirelessly to make a difference across our state.”

Through their parent company, Global Payments, Heartland also participates in a Day of Service twice a year. In April, Heartland chose to partner with the Regional Food Bank, giving employees a chance to volunteer in our warehouse.

“Heartland is committed to creating happy and healthy communities that help keep the people and businesses we care about thriving,” Bowman says. “For most of the staff, this was the first time they had volunteered for the Regional Food Bank, and the entire staff was extremely excited about this opportunity.”

The Regional Food Bank is thankful for our corporate partners, and for the work they do to make our community stronger.
