Victoria — like thousands of children throughout Oklahoma — is a winner because of friends like you, compassionate supporters who want to make sure that no child is living with hunger.
Victoria is happy because she and her mother, Paola, have just made a run to their local food pantry, where they received a big box of nutritious food — plus a few ice cream sandwiches — on this warm summer day.
To Paola, one part of parenting is simple to understand — providing food for your children. But that’s not always easy in the wake of a pandemic that led to job losses, higher prices and tighter budgets.
That’s why Paola is so grateful for the food pantry.
“I come because I need it for my daughter,” Paola says. “Food is special for my family.” Paola glances at Victoria. “If she’s happy, then I’m happy too!”
Spend a few minutes with these two, and it’s clear that they have a great relationship. When asked what she thinks about her mom, Victoria has plenty to say.
“She plays with me, she cooks with me, she writes with me, and she paints with me,” Victoria says. But she says Mom has one weakness: “She doesn’t know how to draw, so I teach her how to draw!”
Paola laughs.
“I learn with you and you learn with me, yeah?” Paola says, smiling at Victoria.
“Yeah!” says Victoria.
