Over 100 metro city schools joined the fight against hunger in the fourth annual Students Against Hunger Food Drive. Over 186,700 pounds of food was collected from the student-run food drive, which will provide 145,884 meals to hungry Oklahomans.
College students and students in grades kindergarten through 12th collected monetary and food donations from September 29 through October 31. The food will be distributed to hungry Oklahomans in the communities where it was collected.
Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School set record breaking numbers for the third year in a row by collecting 58,857 pounds of food, which will provide 45,982 meals to those in need. Other schools that received high marks include: Heritage Hall Middle School, which collected 28,957 pounds of food; Linwood collected 8,372 pounds of food; Casady collected 4,069 pounds of food; and Christian Heritage Academy Secondary School collected 3,113 pounds of food.
The Students Against Hunger Food Driveis run by the Youth Leadership Board, a group of high school students from the Oklahoma City metro area who serve as a unified youth voice in the community to advocate on behalf of hungry Oklahomans. The board also coordinates and markets the Students Against Hunger Food Drive.
