The Biggest Loser's Danny Cahill Helps Fight Hunger in Oklahoma
Jan. 27, 2010
OKLAHOMA CITY – Yesterday, NBC's The Biggest Loser Season 8 winner and Oklahoma-native, Danny Cahill, stopped by the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to show his support for The Biggest Loser's Pound For Pound Challenge.
The Biggest Loser and Feeding America have partnered to "Lose Nationally, Feed Locally." For every pound Oklahomans pledge to lose at www.PFPChallenge.com, General Mills and other sponsors will donate 14 cents to the Regional Food Bank to help fight hunger in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties .
"I put on about seven pounds over the holidays that I'm pledging to lose through the Pound For Pound Challenge," said Cahill. "I'm training for the Boston Marathon, so I'm confident I'll shed those pounds again. Through the Challenge, I'll be helping to provide nutritious meals to Oklahomans in need, and that's a great feeling."
With 500,000 Oklahomans at risk of going hungry every day, the food provided by the Regional Food Bank's partner agencies is essential for many in critical times of need. The Regional Food Bank helps to provide enough food to feed more than 63,000 Oklahomans every week.
Many Regional Food Bank employees have formed a team and have pledged to lose weight on through the Pound for Pound Challenge site. For Cahill's visit, the team built a display of 239 pounds of canned goods to represent the weight he lost on The Biggest Loser. Cahill said he "could no longer imagine carrying that weight around every day." Statewide, Oklahomans have pledge to lose over 48,000 pounds, which will provide more than 6,700 pounds of food. In the Regional Food Bank's service area alone, 975 people have pledged to lose over 31,000 pounds. Every pound pledged by Oklahomans provides a donation that stays in Oklahoma.
