Food Fight at the OK Corral Feeds Hungry Oklahoma Children

Jan. 25, 2010

OKLAHOMA CITY – Saddle up for the 23rd Annual Chefs' Feast on Thursday, March 4th from 7 to 10 p.m. at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma has lassoed an impressive group of chefs for this food and wine tasting event that benefits the Food 4 Kids backpack program.

Last year, Chefs' Feast raised more than $93,000 in net proceeds – enough to support 372 children in Food 4 Kids. Through Food 4 Kids, chronically hungry elementary school children receive a backpack filled with non-perishable, kid-friendly food on weekends and holidays throughout the school year. Before receiving help from the program, many of these children had very little or nothing to eat between school lunch on Friday and school breakfast on Monday.

Guests at the western-themed Chefs' Feast, presented by Chesapeake Energy Corporation, will enjoy grub from 26 chefs who will rustle up more than 75 dishes for guests to sample. There will also be a wine pull and a wagonload of prizes for guests to enter to win.

Chef Don Thiery assisted in coordinating the event alongside Chef Christine Dowd, owner of Trattoria Il Centro and Aunt Pittypat's Catering, this year.

"Nothing is more fundamental to the success of a child than the need for food and proper nutrition," said Dowd. "It is our honor and duty as chefs to do whatever we can to ensure that the next generation of Oklahomans can focus on their dreams and not their next meal. Thank you for helping us reach for this goal."

Participating restaurants include: Big Truck Tacos, Café 7, Cafe Evoke Catering, Casady, Cheever's Cafe, Chef's Requested Foods, Faculty House, Gopuram Taste of India, INTEGRIS Southwest, McNealey's Catering, Nonna's Euro-American Ristorante & Bar, Platt College, Ranch Steakhouse; Red Prime Steak, Rococo, Season's Catering, Sheraton Hotel-1889, Sodexo Catering at Southern Nazarene University and Oklahoma City University, The Coach House, The Mantel Wine Bar & Bistro, The Metro Wine Bar & Bistro, Trattoria Il Centro and Will Rogers Theater.

Along with excellent food and wine, cowboys and cowgirls can purchase chances to win:
