George Kaiser Family Foundation announces $150,000 in grants to benefit Oklahoma City nonprofits
Dec. 8, 2009
OKLAHOMA CITY – George Kaiser Family Foundation (GKFF) today announced a series of grants to Oklahoma City area nonprofits that provide basic needs and health services to their communities. Services include food, shelter, education and job skills training and placements.
"These are difficult times for families throughout our community and country. The existing crisis in basic needs is further exacerbated by shortfalls in state and local budgets, which have caused many forms of public assistance to be cut back," said Ken Levit, executive director, George Kaiser Family Foundation. "GKFF is pleased to provide these grants for services so deeply needed by many of our fellow Oklahomans."
Groups that will receive funding are Rebuilding Together OKC ($10,000), Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma ($25,000), Smart Start Central Oklahoma ($35,000), Sunbeam Family Services ($55,000) and TEEM: Education and Employment Ministry ($25,000).
Rebuilding Together provides free home repairs to make homes safe, warm, and dry for low-income senior citizens in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The Regional Food Bank feeds more than 63,000 Oklahomans each week – nearly half of which are children. Smart Start Central Oklahoma promotes school readiness solutions, while Sunbeam Family Services provides counseling, senior services, child development programs, foster care and other social services. The Education and Employment Ministry serves Oklahoma City with education, training and job placement assistance for those in need of better employment.
