(OKLAHOMA CITY) – March 28, 2017 – On Wednesday, Jersey Mike’s Subs and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma are once again teaming up to make a substantial difference in fighting childhood hunger. Thanks to Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving,” 100 percent of sales at Oklahoma City metro-area locations on March 29 will benefit the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids programs.
“We are grateful for Jersey Mike’s continued support in the fight against childhood hunger in Oklahoma,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “One in four children in the state has inconsistent access to food. That’s why partnerships like this are so important. Every $200 raised through this campaign will support a child in Food for Kids for an entire school year.”
Last school year, the Regional Food Bank provided the equivalent of nearly three million meals to chronically hungry children through its Food for Kids childhood hunger programs, which includes the Backpack Program and School Pantries. Through the Backpack Program, children receive a backpack full of kid-friendly, non-perishable and nutritious food on Friday to sustain them over weekends and school holidays. The Regional Food Bank has added 2,000 more elementary school children to the Backpack Program this school year alone, bringing the total served to nearly 20,000.The School Pantry Program provides more than 5,000 chronically hungry middle and high school students with food to sustain them after school and over weekends.
