Join Lyric Theatre in Saying Bah Humbug to Hunger this Holiday Season

“A Christmas Carol” Raises Donations for Regional Food Bank

(Oklahoma City) – Dec. 6, 2017 – Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma will once again raise money for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma during the run of “A Christmas Carol,” presented by Devon Energy, through Dec. 24 at the Plaza Theatre. Cash donations will be collected at the end of each performance. Since 2011, Lyric Theatre has raised $116,000 to help fight hunger.

“Over the past six years, Lyric Theatre and its patrons have provided almost 580,000 meals for fellow Oklahomans living with hunger,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank.  “We are so appreciative of Lyric and the audience for thinking of others this holiday season.”

The majority of people served by the Regional Food Bank are chronically hungry children, seniors living on limited incomes and hardworking families struggling to make ends meet. Families like Howard’s, who shops at the Pottawatomie County Community Market in Shawnee, a community-based partner agency of the Regional Food Bank.

“We would go hungry if it wasn’t for this place,” he said.

Hunger never takes a holiday. Thanks to a generous matching challenge from APMEX.com, the Cresap Family Foundation and Chesapeake Energy Corporation, every donation received through Jan. 15 will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $600,000 for a total impact of $1.2 million. After the match is met, every $1 donated will provide five meals to Oklahomans living with hunger. To make a tax-deductible donation, call 405-600-3136 or visit regionalfoodbank.org.
