(OKLAHOMA CITY) – Feb. 21, 2017 - The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is once again joining forces with 13 Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurants throughout the Oklahoma City area for the seventh annual “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign. During the month of March, customers can make a donation to the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids programs at Jersey Mike’s to fight childhood hunger in the state.
“One in four children in Oklahoma struggles with hunger,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “No child should have to worry about not having enough to eat. Thanks to Jersey Mike’s ‘Month of Giving,’ we can ensure that more children will receive the nutrition they need to grow and thrive.”
The campaign will culminate with Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving” on Wednesday, March 29. Local Jersey Mike’s restaurants will donate 100 percent of the day’s sales – every single dollar that comes in – to the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids programs. Every $200 raised through this campaign will support a child in Food for Kids for an entire school year. A total of $50,000 was raised last year through “Month of Giving” to fight childhood hunger in Oklahoma.
Last school year, the Regional Food Bank provided the equivalent of nearly three million meals to chronically hungry children through its Food for Kids childhood hunger programs, which includes the Backpack Program and School Pantries. Through the Backpack Program, children receive a backpack full of kid-friendly, non-perishable and nutritious food on Friday to sustain them over weekends and school holidays. The School Pantry Program provides chronically hungry middle and high school students with food to sustain them after school and over weekends.
Nationwide, Jersey Mike’s will partner with 150 different charities, including hospitals, youth organizations and more.
“I would like to extend a personal invitation to you and your family to visit Jersey Mike’s Subs throughout the month of March, and especially on ‘Day of Giving’ when 100 percent of sales – every penny – goes to help a great local cause,” said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and chief executive officer, who started the company when he was only 17 years old.
