Savvy Deals Benefit Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma
May 26, 2011
OKLAHOMA CITY - Thanks to a new partnership with EatAroundOKC Deals, foodies can get fantastic discounts of 50 percent off or more at the best restaurants around the metro while fighting hunger. The money-saving site will donate $1 to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma for every deal sold.
“Here at EatAroundOKC, we spend a lot of time talking about food,” said founder Tim Wall. “We enjoy food, but we recognize that the opportunity to pursue our interest in food is truly a luxury. We’re blessed beyond measure when we simply have enough to eat, let alone when we are able to choose from so many different dining options. That’s why we are giving back to those in need through our deals program. Not only are Oklahomans getting great deals at local restaurants, they are also helping fight hunger in Oklahoma.”
EatAroundOKC has fostered support for local Oklahoma City restaurants since 2006 through honest, thoughtful discussion on its restaurant review website, and through Facebook and Twitter. The EatAroundOKC Deals program began in December of 2010 as a way to connect local restaurants with EatAroundOKC's loyal audience of restaurant enthusiasts.
Anyone can subscribe to EatAroundOKC Deals to receive free email updates about special offers at local Oklahoma City restaurants. Plus, when you share these deals with friends, each friend that signs up gets a $5 credit, and you’ll get a $5 credit after your friend’s first purchase. Past deals include great offers at Paseo Grill, Iguana Mexican Grill, Pachinko Parlor and the Wedge Pizzeria. The website's current deal, available through May 27th, offers a $20 voucher at local Italian eatery, Caffe Pranzo, for only $10.
“Every dollar donated to the Regional Food Bank will provide seven meals for the hungry in central and western Oklahoma,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “We encourage Oklahomans to take advantage of these great deals and join us in the fight against hunger.”
The Regional Food Bank provides enough food to feed more than 77,000 hungry Oklahomans every week through a network of 700 charitable feeding programs and elementary schools. More than 11,000 chronically hungry elementary school children receive a backpack of food every weekend throughout the school year through the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids Backpack Program; more than 7,000 senior citizens receive food through the Regional Food Bank’s Senior Feeding program; and 1,000 at-risk children are provided a safe haven and nutritious food after school through the Kids Cafe program.
