Regional Food Bank Seeks Volunteers for May 14th Food Drive

April 26, 2011

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma seeks 60 additional volunteers to help sort canned food donations on Saturday, May 14 from the Letter Carriers Food Drive at 21 metro-area post office sites.

“More than 400 volunteers are needed to help sort the projected 400,000 pounds of donations that we will receive on May 14,” said Jamie Treadaway, volunteer recruiter at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.  “We currently have 325 volunteers signed up, but still need another 60 to ensure that the donations are sorted for distribution to our partner agencies.”

To volunteer, fill out this online form or contact Jamie Treadaway at jtreadaway@regionalfoodbank.org or 405.600.3154.

As part of the Letter Carriers Food Drive, residents in 83 cities will receive a plastic donation bag the week of May 9th.  They are asked to fill that bag with canned food donations and leave it next to their mail box by 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 14th.

Most needed donations include: canned meats, meat-based soups, canned fruits, canned vegetables, peanut butter, and rice and beans.  Monetary donations can also be made online at regionalfooodbank.org, by calling 405.972.1111 or texting “Can” to 27722 to make a $10 donation (data and message rates apply).  Every dollar donated will provide seven meals to a hungry neighbor in need.
